Xiaomi sold less than 10,000 units of Mi3 in the first flash sale
Xiaomi’s Mi3 went on sale in India on 22nd
July and the smartphone was sold out in less than 40 minutes (37
minutes 49 seconds to be exact). The company had mentioned that it had
received over 1,00,000 registrations before it went on sale and the
Flipkart website crashed as soon as it went on sale. But nobody knew as
to how much units did Flipkart actually sell and neither the company
didn’t release the actual figures.
Insider sources which are credible have stated that Xiaomi had a number slightly smaller than 10,000 units up for sale. It wanted to test the market before it came all guns blazing. Companies like Xiaomi operate on low margins and just in case they overestimate the demand, they end up with a lot of dead stock. Now that it has tested the waters, it knows that there are still at least 90,000 people interested in buying the device.
The second round of sale of Xiaomi Mi 3 will begin on July 29. So the ones who couldn’t get their hands on the device earlier can do so when the next sale begins as the registrations will be carried forward. And just in case you didn’t register earlier, you can do so till 28 July. What we fear is that Xiaomi might just miss out on a slew of buyers by not having it in stock when they demand it. Let us see how the sale model works out for Xiaomi in India in future.
